The Jr Black Achievement Awards Society Presents our Annual Community Picnic in the Park

The Jr Black Achievement Awards Society (JrBAA) is excited to announce our upcoming Community Picnic in the Park, a lively celebration of our young achievers and community networking.

The event will take place at the scenic Glen Park in Coquitlam, British Columbia, on July 16th, 2023, from 11 am to 3 pm. Attendees can look forward to a day filled with fun activities, entertainment, and opportunities to connect with organizations promoting their initiatives.

Glen Park, situated in the Town Centre area of Coquitlam, offers a picturesque setting with various amenities such as picnic areas for bagged lunches, park trails, playgrounds, and a fenced dog park. Its convenient location near the Lincoln Street Skytrain, adjacent to Coquitlam Centre, ensures easy accessibility for all attendees.

The Community Picnic in the Park aims to foster a sense of unity, celebrate the achievements of Black youth, and provide a platform for organizations to showcase their work and engage with the community. JrBAA is happy to partner with several community organizations to showcase their work and highlight their initiatives.

Throughout the event, attendees will have the opportunity to enjoy a wide array of activities suitable for all age groups. The entertainment area will feature live performances, including a band performance, a hip-hop act, and a spoken word/slam poetry performance. Moreover, the event will commemorate Nelson Mandela’s birthday with a guest speaker.

In addition to the stage presentations, there will be a games tent for adults, offering both traditional card games and life-sized favourites such as Jenga, Cornhole, Dominoes, Bocce Ball, Yardzee, and Connect 4. Kids’ activities will include potato sack races, three-legged races, wheelbarrow races, face painting, balloon artistry, and a dedicated craft tent.

JrBAA extends an open invitation to individuals, groups, and organizations aligned with the mission of supporting and empowering Black youth. Attendees are encouraged to bring their picnic baskets to enjoy a day of networking and camaraderie with friends and family.
